Migration, as a phenomenon, is not new in the history of humanity. However, the patterns, motivations and consequences of these movements have evolved over time, reflecting the complex socioeconomic and political dynamics involved. In the case of Mozambique, the year 2020 witnessed a unique set of circumstances that influenced the country's migration flows.

Mozambique has a long history of both internal and international migratory movements. The reasons for these movements vary from the search for better economic opportunities, escape from armed conflicts, natural disasters, among others.

In 2020, the migration flow map shows a significant outflow of people from Mozambique to neighboring countries and beyond. These flows can be attributed to a combination of factors. Firstly, the north of Mozambique, especially the province of Cabo Delgado, has been the scene of armed conflicts involving insurgent groups, which has led many to seek refuge in neighboring countries such as Tanzania. Additionally, climate change and natural disasters such as cyclones have also affected Mozambique, causing internal displacement and cross-border migration, however, economic motivations continue to be a driving force, with many Mozambicans seeking better employment and education opportunities in the countries neighbors or in other regions of the world.

It is crucial to recognize and understand these dynamics to formulate effective migration policies and provide the necessary support to migrants. The map depicting the 2020 flows serves as a powerful visual tool to illustrate the magnitude and direction of Mozambique's migratory movements, highlighting the need for a regional and global approach to the phenomenon.
